A jam pan used to be an essential in any country kitchen, but somehow in the rush for convenience many people forgot the art of jam making.

We're here to promote a back to nature approach and when your belly is full of fruit and there's nowhere else for it to go then turning it into jam is pure joy. One of the things my friends and I love is how turning summer fruits into jam allows you to enjoy summer all year long.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves. If you're looking for a jam pan, then you must already be at least sold on the idea of making jam - if not a complete fan like me yet.

The good news is that a modern jam pan, like the kitchen craft one mentioned above, comes with an encapsulated base to ensure much more even heat distribution than granny's old pan. Which means you can avoid the hot spots that cause the jam to stick and burn and enjoy your jam making even more.

While making jam in any pan is better than letting fruit rot, or buying your jam from the shop. Personally I'd recommend staying clear of really cheap jam pans because they may well be more trouble that they're worth.

The more even heat distribution also has a side benefit too. Less sticking will make you jam pan easier to clean too.

When people ask me to review which jam pan is best all I can say is that I like the Kitchen Craft jam pan - because it's clean, simple and hardwearing. I suspect when you buy your jam pan today - it will last you a life time. About £30 for a lifetime of happy jam making - that's why I think jam pans are such a bargain.

Which jam pan is best for you?

In the end I think this has to be your decision, while I've told you my favourite, there are a lot of great jam pans out there. Many people like  a copper jam pan.

Personally, while I do love how they look in the kitchen - I'm more interested in value for money and I believe a modern steel jam pan will do the job just as well - for less than half the price.
